Smyrna 5K

Smyrna, GA

Take a Step Toward Charity!

This is the second annual Smyrna 5K. The race will also be a part of The Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series which is a series of 400+ Georgia running events that take place throughout the year. Runners can travel to unique and different locations throughout the state and experience fun and different running events, while seeing new places and sights.

Proceeds from the race will go toward the various programs supported by the Smyrna Optimist Club and the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation.  That’s right, these two long time Smyrna Organizations have teamed up to support the Smyrna Community and most importantly its youth.

In case you aren’t familiar with these organizations....

The Optimist Club has been a member of the Smyrna community for over 50 years with the purpose of developing optimism, promoting an active interest in good government and civic affairs, inspiring respect for law, promoting patriotism and to aid and encourage the development of youth.

These goals are accomplished through numerous programs organized and participated in by the Optimist Club throughout the year. These include:

  • Youth Oratorical Contest
  • Read by Grade Three
  • Calvary Children’s Home
  • Respect for Law/Respect for Firefighters Breakfast
  • Tri-Star Sports
  • “Flippin for Kids” Annual Pancake Breakfast
  • The Optimist Junior Golf Competition
  • Smyrna Optimist Baseball
  • Santa House
  • Adopt-a-Mile
  • Adopt-a-Trail (Silver Comet)
  • Prayer Breakfast
  • H.A.V.E.N. Academy

The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation was founded with a mission to encourage and strengthen the partnership between the Community and its Public Safety Personnel.

Supporting the SPSF just makes sense. Why? It is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those who live, work, or play in the City of Smyrna and surrounding communities and to generate growth within those communities.

To that end, the SPSF raises revenue to fund a variety of programs, including:

  1. Shop with a Hero: Assists local disadvantaged youth by police officers, firefighters, and military personnel taking these children shopping during the holiday season.
  2. Benevolent Fund Provides financial support for public safety employees (and/or their families) injured or killed in the line of duty.
  3. Community Outreach Programs: Funds such programs as CPR training, child car-seat safety, neighborhood visits, and others to foster community relationships with residents.
  4. Annual Public Safety Awards: This event recognizes and rewards those Smyrna firefighters and police officer heroes who demonstrate exception skill, expertise, innovation, bravery, and commitment to keeping Smyrna safe.
  5. Equipment: Purchases needed equipment and provides training to keep Smyrna’s Public Safety employees performing at the highest level of productivity.
  6. Preparedness: Offers training and programs related to disaster relief and support.
